On a Hill Far Away

This hymn has got to be one of my favorites, an amazing reminder of Christ suffering for us. And whenever I hear it, not matter who is singing, I hear my Dad's voice. He use to sing this to me, his deep and soothing voice would help me sleep at night when i was a girl.

STOP, LISTEN, AND PONDER THE WONDER OF THE CROSS.

On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,
The emblem of suffering and shame;
And I love that old cross where the dearest and best
For a world of lost sinners was slain.

Refrain
So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross,
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it some day for a crown.

O that old rugged cross, so despised by the world,
Has a wondrous attraction for me;
For the dear Lamb of God left His glory above
To bear it to dark Calvary.

Refrain
So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross,
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it some day for a crown.

In that old rugged cross, stained with blood so divine,
A wondrous beauty I see,
For ’twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died,
To pardon and sanctify me.

Refrain
So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross,
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it some day for a crown.

To the old rugged cross I will ever be true;
Its shame and reproach gladly bear;
Then He’ll call me some day to my home far away,
Where His glory forever I’ll share.

Refrain
So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross,
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it some day for a crown.

Wow, so moving! I was convicted; as I watched the depiction of the solder whipping Christ that we all stand in guilt of sin just as if we to held a whip to Christ’s back. It sure means a lot to remember and think on the fact that Christ died to save us while we fought against Him. Praise the Lord for His faithfulness and forgiveness. Thanks Naomi loved the song Eleanor

Thanks Naomi - I gathered up the kids and we watched this as part of our worship time today. Very powerful. And I love that song too. Who is the artist on this one? BTW, have missed you in blog-land the past few weeks. Good to have you 'back'!
